Telegram CEO Pavel Durov has been arrested by French police at Le Bourget Airport near Paris.

Durov was detained after his private jet landed at the airport. 

The arrest is related to accusations of failing to manage criminal activities on Telegram. 

The investigation concerns a lack of moderators on the app. 

Pavel Durov is a 39-year-old billionaire who was born in Russia and lives in Dubai 

He holds dual citizenship of the United Arab Emirates and France.

Telegram, founded by Durov in 2013, is popular in Russia, Ukraine, and former Soviet states 

The app was banned in Russia in 2018 but the ban was lifted in 2021 

Russian officials and Elon Musk have criticized the arrest. 

Musk used hashtags like #freepavel and commented on the situation on social media.
