Criticism and Controversy

Like any other political figure, Nitish Kumar has endured controversy and criticism over his career. The following are a few drawbacks and critiques attached to him:
1. Regular Shifts in Political Alliances:
oKumar has received a lot of flak for switching up his political allegiances all the time. His alternating alliances with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have given rise to charges of ideological inconsistency and opportunism.

2. Management of the COVID-19 Pandemic:  The way in which his administration handled the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in the second wave that struck in 2021, drew harsh condemnation. Bihar was reported to have a high death toll, poor healthcare facilities, and oxygen shortages.
3. Prohibition Policy:  The 2016 implementation of the ban on alcohol has drawn praise and criticism. Despite the fact that its goal was to lessen issues associated to alcohol, some claim it increased the illegal alcohol trade, decreased state revenue, and had negative consequences on the travel and hospitality sectors.
4. Law and Order Issues: Bihar continues to have challenges with crime and corruption in spite of early gains in law and order. There have been claims that his government has not been able to continuously increase safety and effectively address the entrenched criminal groups.

Allegations of Nepotism and Corruption: Kumar has been the target of accusations of nepotism and corruption, much like a lot of politicians. Despite the fact that he has not been directly involved in any significant scandals, he is accused of not doing enough to combat corruption inside his party and administration.
7. Social Issues: Bihar still faces challenges including extreme poverty, low literacy rates, starvation, and poor infrastructure, even with a number of social welfare programs in place. Opponents contend that not enough has been done by his government to solve these pervasive issues.
