Kashyap Pramod Patel was born on February 25 1980 in Garden City, New York. His father is Pramod Patel, who’s from Uganda and has Gujarati Indian roots. Something big happened to Pramod Patel and his family. They were forced to leave Uganda in 1972 because of the purges ordered by Idi Amin.
After they were expelled the family went back to India for a while. Then they tried to find a home, in several countries like the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada. Kashyap Pramod Patel and his family had to move a lot. The people moved to Canada after their applications were accepted. They stayed in Canada for a while. Then the people eventually settled in the United States.
The Patel family comes from Bhadran village in the Anand district of Gujarat. There is a Patidar organization in Bhadran village that has kept track of the Patel family history for more, than 18 generations.
Patel grew up with his father and his fathers eight brothers and sisters. He was raised as a Hindu. This became well known when Patel became the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He took his oath on the Bhagavad Gita.
Patel went to Garden City High School. He was really interested in justice even back then. His senior-year quote was something like this: “Racism is man’s threat—the maximum of hatred for a minimum reason.”During the summer Patel worked as a caddie at the Garden City Country Club. He met some defense attorneys at the country club. These defense attorneys had an influence, on Patel. They made him want to be a lawyer of a doctor. Patel wrote about this in his memoir on.
Patel finished school at the University of Richmond in 2002. He got a degree in justice and history. Patel also went to University College London where he got a certificate in law. Then he went to Pace University School of Law. Got his law degree in 2005. When Patel was at Pace University School of Law he was part of the Judicial Intern Opportunity Program which’s a program by the American Bar Association that focuses on diversity. This program is really important, for Patel and the American Bar Association. Patel learned a lot from the Judicial Intern Opportunity Program at Pace University School of Law.
Early Legal Career: Public Defense and Federal Service (2005–2017)
Patel started working with the law in Miami-Dade County, Florida. He was a defender. Patel worked on lots of kinds of cases. These cases included things like crime and human trafficing illegal drugs. He also worked on trials for serious crimes. On Patel worked as a federal public defender for the Southern District of Florida. This is where he learned about what happens in court and how to defend people based on the constitution and the Southern District of Florida rules. Patel gained experience and Patel became more knowledgeable about federal court proceedings and the constitution and how it affects people, in the Southern District of Florida.
In 2012 Patel joined the U.S. Department of Justice as a staff member.He had to do a lot of things when he first started.Patel was in charge of getting warrant approvals from judges.On Patel worked as a prosecutor in the National Security Division of the U.S. Department of Justice.The National Security Division is where Patel worked on cases that had to do with counterterrorism.Patel also acted as a liaison to the Joint Special Operations Command.The Joint Special Operations Command is also known as the JSOC.Patel did a lot of work, with the National Security Division and the Joint Special Operations Command.Patel was given some work to do during this time. This work was about the 2012 Benghazi attack. People did not agree on what Patels job was in this matter.
By 2014 Patel was working with the Counterterrorism Division at the Department of Justice.
Patel had some problems in court. He did not agree with some people in his department. He left the Department of Justice in 2017. Patel said that the 2016 presidential election and the things that happened because of it made him leave the Department of Justice. The 2016 presidential election had an effect, on Patels decision to leave.
Congressional Investigations and the Nunes Memo (2017–2019)
In 2017 Patel became a part of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence as an aide to Chairman Devin Nunes. Patel was really important in looking into where the Federal Bureau of Investigation got the idea to check out the connections between people who work with Donald Trump and Russian officials during the 2016 election. The House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence which Patel was a part of did a lot of work on this. Patel helped the House Permanent Select Committee, on Intelligence figure out what really happened with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Donald Trump.
Patel is the person who wrote the “Nunes memo”. This memo said that FBI officials did some things when they were investigating something called Crossfire Hurricane. The memo caused an argument in the country. People who like Trump thought it was great.. Intelligence officials and Democrats did not like it because it left out some important information. Some people did not think the memo was entirely accurate. So the memo made Patel a well known person among conservative politicians. Patel and the “Nunes memo” are still talked about today. The “Nunes memo” and Patel are famous, in political circles because of this.
The Democrats took charge of the House in 2019. Then Patel worked for a while as a senior counsel to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. He did this for the House Committee, on Oversight and Government Reform.
National Security Council and Intelligence Leadership (2019–2020)
In February 2019 Patel joined the National Security Council. He started out working with the International Organizations and Alliances team. On Patel shifted his focus to Ukraine matters. This was during the time before the Trump-Ukraine impeachment inquiry into the National Security Council and Ukraine. Patel worked on Ukraine related issues, at the National Security Council.
By the middle of 2019 Patel became the Senior Director for Counterterrorism at the National Security Council. When people testified during the impeachment hearings it brought up questions about Patels conversations with President Trump and the part Patel played in forming the administrations thoughts on Ukraine. Patel said he did not give information about the National Security Council or Ukraine. Patel was clear that he did what he had to do as the Senior Director for Counterterrorism, at the National Security Council.
In the year 2020 Patel became an advisor to Richard Grenell, who was the Acting Director of National Intelligence at that time. Patel was later named the Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence for National Intelligence.
He was in charge of making sure all the different parts of the United States intelligence community worked together.
Patel was involved in changing the way things were done and reducing the number of staff members before he went back to the National Security Council later, in the year 2020.
Department of Defense and the End of the Trump Administration (2020–2021)
When Defense Secretary Mark Esper was let go in November 2020 Patel became the Chief of Staff to the new Acting Defense Secretary Christopher C. Miller. Patel was in charge of the work at the Pentagon during the time when the presidency was changing hands to Joe Biden. The news said that Patel and the people who were helping with the transition did not get along. They thought Patel was very loyal, to Donald Trump. Patel and the transition team had ideas and this caused some problems. The Pentagon is a place and Patel was the one overseeing everything during this time. He was working for Acting Defense Secretary Christopher C. Miller. They were both doing their jobs while Joe Biden was getting ready to take over.
People talked about Patels name a lot when they were discussing who would be in charge at the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Central Intelligence Agency near the end of the Trump presidency. The Trump presidency was coming to an end. There were a lot of conversations about Patel. Some people wanted Patel to have a role but it did not happen because some people inside did not want Patel to be appointed. Private Sector, Media Activity, and Legal Disputes (2021–2024)
After leaving his job in the government Patel started a company called Trishul. This company helps companies with advice. On he began The Kash Foundation. The Kash Foundation is an organization. It collects money for people who need help with problems and other things.
He became part of the board of Trump Media & Technology Group in the year 2022. Patel is often seen on media platforms and podcasts. He talks on these platforms. Podcasts about Trump Media & Technology Group and other things. Patel is a presence, on these platforms.
Patel wrote some childrens books that were about politics. He also wrote a memoir called Government Gangsters that came out in 2023. In Government Gangsters Patel said some things about the Government Gangsters and the people who work for the government that a lot of people did not agree with. He talked about how he thinks the government should be changed and he even made a list of government officials who he thinks are part of something he calls the ” state”, in Government Gangsters.
Patel was in a lot of trouble with the law during this time. He was sued by media companies for saying bad things about them. Patel said these companies were lying about him. Most of the time the courts did not do anything about it. The cases were dropped. Patel was involved in lawsuits, about this and most of these lawsuits were dismissed or Patel just decided to stop pursuing them.
Appointment as FBI Director (2025)
In November 2024 President-elect Donald Trump chose Patel to be the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. This happened after Christopher Wray said he was going to leave his job.
The meetings where the Senate Judiciary Committee asked Patel questions were very argumentative. They talked about things Patel said in the past and the people he knows. They also talked about what Patel thinks about the Federal Bureau of Investigation being independent. The Federal Bureau of Investigation needs to be able to make its decisions without people telling them what to do. President-elect Donald Trump nominated Patel to be the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Patel had a lot of people against him from both sides. He was still confirmed by the Senate in February 2025. The vote was really close with 51 people saying yes and 49 people saying no. After that Attorney General Pam Bondi swore him in. Patel became the ninth person to be, in charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation which is also known as the FBI.

As the FBI director Patel made some changes at the Federal Bureau of Investigation.He decided to move a lot of employees from Washington, D.C. To offices around the United States.The FBI director also wanted to move some teams to different places.Patel thought it was an idea to cut the budget and get rid of some offices that watched over the FBI internally.The FBI director believed that the Federal Bureau of Investigation should use its resources to fight crime and keep the country safe from threats, to national security.

Epstein Files and Public Scrutiny
The thing with Patel was that he had to deal with a lot of controversy especially when it came to the Epstein files. These are documents about the financier Jeffrey Epstein. People were really interested in the Epstein files again. Patel said he did not believe the conspiracy theories about Jeffrey Epsteins death. He thought Jeffrey Epstein died by suicide, which is what the Justice Department said before. Some people who liked Patel were not happy with what he said about Jeffrey Epstein.. Others thought Patel was doing the right thing because it was what the institution would do in a situation like the one, with Jeffrey Epstein.
Patel later spoke to committees. He said he did not hide any information to help figures. The meetings were very argumentative. People had strong differences of opinion. Patel denied the allegations that he had suppressed evidence to protect figures during these meetings.

Patel has been around ice hockey for a long time. He played the game. He also taught people how to play it.
Patel started going out with Alexis Wilkins in the year 2023. Alexis Wilkins is a singer who sings country music.
Even though a lot of people are always watching what Patel does Patel says that his personal life and his work are two things. Patel thinks that what he does in his time is separate from what he does, as ice hockey player and coach which is Patels job.
