Donald McNichol Sutherland was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada on July 17, 1935. His parents, Dorothy Isobel and Frederick McLea Sutherland, had jobs in sales and politics.
Unfortunately, during his early years, Sutherland faced health challenges such as rheumatic fever, hepatitis, and poliomyelitis, which had a significant impact on his childhood. He attended Bridgewater High School and later pursued a double major in engineering and drama at Victoria College, University of Toronto.
